Wednesday's nails

So on Tuesday, as no particular attention had been paid to our nails on Monday, I painted them red (Barry M's Nail Paint in Raspberry). Biiiig mistake. That came off quick sharp. To add to the upset, my violin teacher told me that the pitiful length that I'd grown them to during the summer holidays had to come off, sharpish. Not happy guys, not happy. Anyway I decided to appease her for once so am currently sporting nubbins. I don't mind them painted with a very dark colour, but you know, school, so I came up with this:

Urgh. You can /barely/ see anything. This is "Flash" by Avon (a light pearl pink) and then over it I put one coat of Nails Inc's "Sloane Mews", which mutes it even more.
I got away with it though, so I'm not complainging.
^ Is my other hand (right hand) which doesn't come into contact with the fingerboard so doesn't need to have shorter nails. Theoretically. In practice she nagged me the following week into cutting those as well so I could "hold the bow better" (wtf? Like seriously) and I gave in because quite frankly it's TOO EARLY in the school term for this foolishness. Foolishness, I tell you.

How has returning to school/work (if you're a teacher) been for you guys? I'm interested. Please share ;)

Pink nail art

I really don't know what I was trying to achieve here.

On the plus side - only one more exam tommorow! English (again) and then I shall be free, free as a bird, to do work experience. argh.

I don't even know.

Happy Easter! Screw you Avon. Plus Easter Themed Nail Art.

Yeah, that's right.

The gorgeous Avon "Flash" that I swatched yesterday? It chipped after about a day and a half. I was horrified. It was SERIOUS chipwear. :( Such a shame, when "Minimalistic Peach" - which I reviewed here - lasted without any chips until I took it off. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and put it down to the topcoat, which probably last saw light some time in the 90's (meh. It was free.) and was really rather gloopy. I'll swatch it again at some point.

In other news, I hope everyone has had a great easter! As I was so disapointed with the Avon I painted over it with my Chocolate Franken that I talked about here. It's practically empty now but I want to make more frankens and I need that bottle to store them in :P

My franken with my easter egg. One of four that I got. Yeah baby! This one was a Nestle's KitKat one. Was lush. Yes, as a Christian I should so be against all this commercialisation rubbish. But it tastes so good :)

Just to show off the franken a bit more. I think my skin matches the egg, kinda :P And now for the nail art. I decided to use my brown Nail Art pen to graffiti my nails so that they looked like the weird crackle/shell patterns on this egg...
Happy Easter!

Avon Swatch

I decided to swach some more nail polishes today. This was the Avon "Flash" featured in the previous haul.
I personally really like this colour, though it probably suits paler skinned girls better. It's a light, shimmery pink with hints of gold in it. Very interesting.

The formula, just like the other Avon I've tried, was lush. The ball bearings travelled through it really easily and coverage was good.
I decided to open the Miss Sporty black nail polish I got yesterday and Konad with it.
I personally thought the result wasn't bad! It was a lot more pigmented than I thought it would be and all in all was quite good for stamping with.

EDIT: I found this swatch at the blog More Nail Polish. Look fairly similar? I'd say that this nail polish has slightly more purple than the Avon. But otherwise...

Nail Art

So I heard about this nail art contest being held at Charming Nails and I decided to enter. Here's my offering:

It's a beach with sun and some palm trees. This is completely picture heavy, you have been warned!
The picture above is to prove it's a full manicure.

The contest is here: http://charmingnails.blogspot.com/2010/03/kansainvalinen-kilpailu.html
I used the Avon blue with the Chinese nail art pens in dark yellow, dark green and a brownish/reddish colour.

Haul!

So recently I've managed to acquire loads more nail polishes - five half used base coats (fine by me :D) and a load of new colours which I'll show you now. A really good family friend used to be a nail technician a while back and didn't use these any more...so she gave them to me. I am so pleased :)
Here we have: two Maybellines, three Avons and one nail polish from Boots.
This is what looks like a glittery purple topcoat (from Avon).
Here's the topcoat again with it's buddies - Avon Minimilastic Peach (which I showed in an earlier post) and Flash. Both look like they'll be good colours for school. The formula on Minimalistic Peach is absolutley gorgeous. The ball bearings literally fly through the mixture yet on your fingers it's not runny at all. Good coverage. I haven't tried Flash or Glittering Purple yet but I'm sure they'll live up to expectations.
The Maybelline colours really caught my eye! There's an orange (Tropical Peach, hmm, a lot of peaches hanging around here!) and a turquoise (Jelly Bean). The colours are both lighter than they appear in this photo. Again, haven't tried these out yet but expect swatches soon! Both of them look like they have very interesting hints of shimmer in them.
Last but not least, a dark metallic blue from Boots named "Oceanic 625." Mysterious.
This also seems to have quite a bit of shimmer in there.
Like I said earlier, swatches soon! I'm really pleased with these and I thank her for her generosity :) For a student on a budget these are a serious godsend. Oh, and on Tuesday, I'm leaving for my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition (for those that don't know what that is, it's a British thing, google it because it's quite hard to explain) and I'll be back on Wednesday...we can see how whatever colour I'm wearing holds up against that terrain...

Sheers for School - Avon Colour Trend Minimalistic Peach

Hi! Today I went to school with this colour on - a recent acquisition from a family friend. It's a great, very light pearly pink.
That was three coats, and there is still VNL but it's just so pretty! I couldn't stop staring at my nails, they reminded me of Mother of Pearl or something.

Do you guys thing this suits me? It looks very golden in this picture but it's not really.

And a bottle shot:
