Epic Rant - Social Networking

In honour of the #bbloggers discussion last night...

Recently, more and more brands (British ones, especially) have been beginning to interact with the consumer and blogging world via. social networking - Facebook, Twitter and the like. This is good - it makes customers feel more connected with the brand, gives a platform on which enquiries and complaints can be answered (unless you're Sleek) and I'm just plain more likely to buy from a brand that I know more about.

Unfortunately, this seems to have opened the door for sheer ignorance like this:

And this:

Nothing else I can say to this.
I don't even know why you'd advertise the fact you were reselling a company's products ON THEIR OWN PAGE. WTF. That...words cannot comprehend...

Ignore my piss poor photo editing and focus on the matter at hand :P

Honestly. Really? You want to publically beg? You don't see anything wrong with that?

At least, if you're going to be too cheap to buy from a line where everything is a pound, do your research first. A company that sells only in the UK and Ireland, and I mean only in the UK and Ireland, for example, is not going to be interested in sponsoring a US vlogger. That doesn't make any sense. If a customer from the US can't physically order, then why would you market to that consumer base via YouTubers? If a brand already has a program directed at makeup artists, why would you not try and enter through that channel instead of making yourself look unprofessional by begging on Facebook. Someone, please explain to me because I can't even comprehend this, on a thousand different levels.

Why should I care? Because it doesn't just reflect badly on the blogger, it makes all of us look bad. It feeds into the stereotype that beauty bloggers are grasping, cheapasses who are stealing money from print media and are unprofessional. Yes, the stereotype is highly undeserved, but it doesn't help when people behave like this and vindicate journalists and magazine editors who think this way about bloggers. If you've got to do it, at least take it to email?

As soon as a brand becomes reasonably 'talked about', you get a million and one harpies harrasing their Facebook and Twitter looking for free swag, or to obtain free swag by posting swatches or a review of the cheapest product in the line and then spamming the PR rep with it as if to say "Oooh, look at me. Aren't I such a good customer? SUBSIDISE MY FUTURE SHOPPING TRIPS."

Don't even get me started on the fools that can't type correctly.

Shame that a ranty post was required to bring me out of hiatus, but eh. I enjoy releasing pent up exam frustration through the medium of text. I have like five rants lined up so be prepared for anger.

Allura Nail Buffer Blocks Review

What is this bull.
SAM_7773

Hey, Poundland - I want my pound back!
SAM_7779
Don't judge, guys. A pound can get you a lot these days. Medium fries at McDonalds or a product from the MUA range or even one of the Wilkinson's nail buffers, which actually work.

Not these.
SAM_7780

I've had my eye on these for a while, and so picked them up the last time I was in Poundland. "Ooh" I thought. "Four buffers for a pound! What a bargain!"

It'd be a great bargain, if they didn't all have the same grit. Yes, you read that correctly. Run your hands over any of the four sides and they all feel the same - that is, of nothing.

SAM_7781

Nooooothing. I've felt paper with more texture. This is just coloured, soft plastic.

SAM_7782
You know that something is wrong when the "file" side is the same smoothness as the "shine" side. These don't even make your nails shiny! What a rip.
SAM_7783 The only use I've found for them is this:
SAM_7784
They make OK nail sponging tools. Not great. They're alright.

Save your money and run, run for the hills! Or at least to Wilkinsons, where they sell a single one for 99p that is infinitely more useful.

Miss Sporty Lasting Colour in Black plus Tagged! Blog Awards!

First, I'd just like to say thank you to Le Vernis Chocolat for the Love Your Blog award!

http://levernischocolat.blogspot.com/2010/04/love-your-blog-award.html

I'm going to tag:

Susie's Home and Hobbies
The Chain Nail
The Gloss Goss
Dr Frankenpolish
Toxic Lipstick

These are all really great blogs!

About the nail polish:

The dismal grossness of the yellow was merely a blip, thank goodness. This black has restored my trust in Miss Sporty.

You see that? This polish, if you play it right, is a one coater - yes, ladies and gentlemen, a one coater for only £2. Still, I did two on most of the fingers just out of habit, I guess. The formula is alright, I guess - could be improved. It's not as good as the Metal Shine formula but is still miles better than that disgusting yellow. It's slightly streaky but that can be gotten around. This is the sort of polish that should be a staple in every broke teenagers make up kit. Perhaps not for school, but hey, isn't black meant to be all fashiony, angsty and edgy all into one? Yeah? Urgh. I really can't stand posers. There are some kids at my school who go around wearing half a stick of eyeliner on their faces, listening to Paramore and Showaddywaddy (yeah, I hadn't heard of them either) and claiming that they're "glam rockers" or something...it's just so ridiculous. Funny, certaintly, but ridiculous. Anyway. I digress. Point is, this is a cool black colour to wear. Warning - is still prone to smudging after a large amount of time has elapsed. Once again the one minute drying thing is just bull.

Not bad, is it? Oh, by the way, this polish is surprisingly good for Konading. So yeah, all in all, I'd buy it again.

*sigh* Do you hear that? It's the collective sigh of, I don't know, a million plus British schoolchildren. School starts up again tommorow. Do you know what that means? It means NO POLISH. Or at least, very subtle polish. So, I'm taking the opportunity to try out this Sally Hansen Miracle Grow/Cure thingymagic that I've just been given, because my nails are all horrible and peely right now :( I've got loads of pictures and swatches stored up for you guys, so don't worry! But yeah, I'll see if I can go this week five days four days, maybe, with a clear polish on to try and give my nails a rest.

Love,

September Lena
